Delegates Study Feasibility Of Asean-China Info Superhighway

The Authority for Info-Communications Technology (AITI) Industry of Brunei Darussalam and Ministry of Information Industry of the People's Republic of China hosted the 2nd Asean-China Information Superhighway Working Group Meeting at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday afternoon.

Several representatives from Asean member countries comprising those from the public and private sector, as well as representatives from Telekom Brunei Bcrhad (TelBru) and DST Group, were among those who attended the talk yesterday.

The aim of the two-day meeting, which ends today, is to discuss the Feasibility Study Report of the Asean-China Information Superhighway Project.

AITI Acting Deputy Chief Executive Pg Hj Mohd Salleh bin Pg Hj Aji hoped that the meeting would meet its objectives and continue the efforts in realising the development and expansion of cooperation between Asean and China.

Meanwhile, Qian Tingshuo, the Deputy Director General of Department of Planning, Ministry of Information Industry of the People's Republic of

China, said that once the China-Asean Information Superhighway is up and running, it could further promote the placement of communication infrastructure for both China and Asean member countries.

"Information technology and the (communication) industry represent one of the fields in the world that register the fastest growth," Tingshuo said, adding that the information infrastructure is an important catalyst for the social economic growth for every country.
